Subject: Another Summer 91 Beauty
On this hot summer evening Bruce had his sprawling Baldwin grand piano right up there at the front of the stage. He was wearing shorts and t-shirt and looked like a little kid when he was wiggling and bouncing his legs up and down before the Picasso Moon opener with big goofy grin. He was so happy to be there. I'll never forget that. You can hear him perfectly on the first track of this excellent audience recording of this terrific Grateful Dead concert.
Among highlights are another monster summer 91 Sugaree with Jerry even playing some slide guitar. They were really relaxed and loose and having fun this night. The Let it Grow warms up slowly but afterburners kick in around 6:00 and by 9 minutes the trip machine has been turned on!
A loud, rocking Foolish Heart to open the second and another excellent 91 Eyes of the Word where Garcia starts kicking down sweet runs of notes at about the 3 1/2 minute mark.
But do not miss the Space > All Along The Watchtower transition. It is a mind blower. At one point they're playing both Space and Watchtower at the same time with Phil using some weird effects pedal as the song takes form out of the spacy ether. Purists need not apply. But the boys were really having fun at this show and this is a top notch audience recording of a classic outdoor Nor Cal beauty. Cheers!
